The Process

Documentaries offer an in-depth exploration of real-life events, people, and societal issues, often utilising interviews, archival footage, and narration to craft a rich, immersive narrative. These films emotionally connect with audiences by presenting authentic stories and relatable experiences, allowing viewers to forge a personal bond with the subject matter. By delving into personal journeys, historical moments, or complex social topics, documentaries not only provoke thoughtful reflection but also inspire meaningful action. They challenge perceptions, encourage empathy, and push viewers to engage with the world in a deeper, more impactful way. This emotional connection fosters awareness and compels introspection, leaving a lasting impression that sparks change, both personally and within society.

Our Work

  The Orrery Maker

With a background in engineering and a fascination with clock mechanisms, Peter Grimwood is one of only two Orrery makers currently working in the UK. In 2019, Coolbox visited Peter at his home in Essex. Over the course of two days filming in Peter’s studio, Coolbox captured him working on several new pieces while also exploring his early career. This documentary not only reveals the intricate process behind creating these beautiful machines but also delves into the deeper questions: why are they made, and perhaps more urgently, who will carry on this rare craft once Peter is no longer here to cut gears and align planetary bodies?

I’m Still Me

The film follows a group of incredibly talented artists who have been commissioned to create deeply personal portraits of patients, each piece aimed at capturing the essence of their stories and experiences. These artists approach their work with sensitivity and care, producing portraits that resonate with emotion and give voice to the individual journeys of those featured. Throughout the process, we were honored to craft beautiful, intimate shots that truly brought these stories to life, capturing the profound connection between the artist and the subject. Along the way, we had the privilege of meeting countless inspiring and kind-hearted individuals, each with their own unique narrative, and it was a deeply moving experience to witness their stories unfold through art. The film is a testament to the power of creativity to heal, uplift, and honor the human spirit, and we’re proud to have been part of this powerful journey.

The Wharf Project

The Marple Wharf Project aims to restore and repurpose a Grade II listed warehouse in Marple, Greater Manchester, built in the 1800s. The restoration will transform the space into a community hub, with plans for a Heritage and Visitor Centre on the ground floor and a fitness centre on the first floor. Coolbox Video Production has been documenting the progress through update films, and as the project nears completion, they’ve ramped up video content to showcase the final stages of redevelopment.
