Introducing REC:MCR: A New Quarterly Meetup for Manchester’s Film and Video Community

At Coolbox, we spend every day working alongside some of the most talented filmmakers, producers and creatives in Manchester. One thing we hear time and time again is how valuable it is when people actually get into the same room, share experiences and talk openly about the work, the challenges and the opportunities in our industry.

That’s exactly why we’re excited to officially launch REC:MCR – Northern Networking, a brand-new quarterly meetup for Manchester’s film, video and content production community.

The first REC:MCR event will take place on Tuesday 20 January, from 6pm to 9pm at Campfield, Manchester, who are also supporting the launch as our first official sponsor.

REC:MCR is co-hosted by Coolbox Video Studio and Triangle Facilities Hub, bringing together our combined networks across production, post-production and facilities to create a welcoming, community-led event for the city.

Why we created REC:MCR

Manchester’s production scene is thriving, but it’s also busy and often fragmented. Many of us work in our own bubbles, moving from project to project without many opportunities to step back, connect with peers and share what we’re learning.

As Coolbox founder Marc J Grundy explains:
“Manchester’s production scene is full of talent, but we often work in our own pockets. REC:MCR is about bringing everyone into the same room. We want this to be a space where people feel energised, connected and encouraged to push their creative work further. Whether you run a studio, freelance full-time or are just starting out, this event is for you.”

REC:MCR is open to production companies, freelancers, producers, editors, camera operators, in-house brand teams and emerging talent. The aim is simple: to strengthen Manchester’s rapidly growing production sector by creating regular opportunities to exchange ideas, hear from industry voices and build meaningful professional relationships.

A shared vision with Triangle Facilities Hub

We’re delighted to be partnering with Triangle Facilities Hub on REC:MCR. Their long-standing commitment to supporting the industry makes them a natural co-host for the series.

Triangle co-founder Alain Lolliot adds:
“Triangle has always believed in the power of collaboration within our industry. When people share their experiences and challenges openly, we all benefit. REC:MCR is a chance to bring the talented filmmakers, production and facilities companies of Manchester and the North West together, creating new relationships, strengthening existing ones and learning from one another. By doing that, we strengthen the sector together.”

What to expect on the night

Each REC:MCR event will feature a relaxed mix of networking, short project showcases, an industry guest speaker and optional breakout discussions for freelancers, emerging talent and production leaders.

We’re also incredibly excited to announce award-winning cinematographer Paul Mortlock as the first headline speaker for REC:MCR. Paul’s work spans high-end commercials, branded content and narrative projects, and securing him for the inaugural event perfectly sets the tone for what REC:MCR is about: honest conversations, top-tier talent and practical inspiration for Manchester’s filmmaking community.

The launch event will be free to attend, helping us make the evening as accessible as possible. Future REC:MCR events will be ticketed at a low cost, with discounts for returning guests and “bring a friend” offers to encourage the community to grow organically.

Sponsors and partners

Campfield joins as our first confirmed sponsor and will host the January event at their central Manchester venue. We also have one additional sponsor opportunity available, which includes a five-minute speaking slot, a branded stand on the night and visibility across all REC:MCR promotional activity.
