REC:MCR exists for one simple reason: to bring Manchester’s incredible film and video community together.
Manchester has one of the most exciting and diverse production communities in the UK. There are filmmakers, directors, producers, cinematographers, camera operators, editors, photographers, sound recordists, writers, actors and countless other creative people working across the city and the wider North West.
But sometimes the hardest part is simply getting everyone in the same room.
That’s where REC:MCR comes in.
Hosted by Coolbox Video Studio and Triangle, with our brilliant host Darren Jeffries, REC:MCR is about creating a space where Manchester’s film and video community can meet, connect, swap ideas, talk shop, discover new opportunities and, hopefully, make a few new friends along the way.
And that’s exactly why having companies like PIXAPRO supporting the event matters.
They’re not just putting their name behind an event. They’re helping us create more opportunities for the people who make up Manchester’s thriving production community.
Looking Back at REC:MCR Summer 🔴
The announcement comes off the back of what was an absolutely brilliant third REC:MCR, our Summer Party at Campfield.
We’re honestly still buzzing from it.
More than 120 filmmakers, directors, producers, writers, editors, actors, camera operators, DOPs, photographers, soundies and other creative professionals joined us for an evening of networking, conversations, new connections and inspiring talks.
The event was sponsored by our pals at RED Digital Cinema and Lanor Productions, and it was incredible to see Campfield filled with so many people from Manchester’s film and video production scene.
And while we’re incredibly proud of what REC:MCR has become, there’s something important we always want to acknowledge:
We’re not the community. We’re just helping bring it together.
At Coolbox, our role has really been to act as facilitators, providing a beautiful venue, creating the opportunity and opening the doors.
What happens after that is down to Manchester’s filmmakers, creatives and production community.
And what a community it is.
Seeing people who had never met before exchanging numbers, filmmakers finding potential collaborators, old friends reconnecting and conversations continuing long after the talks had finished was exactly what we hoped REC:MCR would become.
It’s been fantastic to see the Manchester film community embrace the idea and help REC:MCR grow from strength to strength.

So, naturally, we’re already looking ahead.
Our next REC:MCR is happening at Campfield, Manchester, and we’re delighted to have PIXAPRO joining us as a sponsor.
We’ve got plenty planned for this one, with the full programme and lineup being announced soon.
Expect more conversations, more brilliant people from the Manchester film and video production scene, more opportunities to connect and, as always, plenty of time to grab a drink and talk absolute shop with fellow creatives.
