GIVE US A SMILE, IT MIGHT NEVER HAPPEN!
Every now and then, we get handed a gift of a brief. One of watertight logistics and direction and clear creative direction. That was certainly the case when one of our regular clients, Creed Comms got in touch about a project with MyDentist.
It’s always a pleasure collaborating with the crew over at Creed. Now with a few projects under our belts, we’ve found a good rhythm and working dynamic that produces the best possible video content!
The brief for this particular project was quite simple. Coolbox were tasked with producing a two minute recruitment video, featuring real people that actually work for MyDentist – so no actors! The premise was built around a hero shot for each featured staff member in their given environment. These shots would be played back-to-back, with some B-Roll of MyDentist’s brand new surgery peppered in there. Whilst each member of staff were on screen, a personal, unique quote depicting why MyDentist is a great company to work for, would pop up on screen.
So, with all the pre-production taken care of and crew booked, Jessica Baillie & I took a crew of misfits up to York for a two day shoot at mydentist (UK)‘s brand new surgery.
Over the course of the two days, we had to capture 12 different hero shots…this meant 12 different set ups! So it’s safe to say we were up against it and time wasn’t our friend. However, after some meticulous planning, Jess & I decided to go hard or go home and aim to get at least 6 hero shots done on the first day. Now, this might not sound like a lot but each set up took roughly about an hour to complete and get looking perfect and you know how it goes in this industry, you always need more time and it seems to vanish into thin air! However, by the end of day one and after a huge effort by the whole crew, we had managed to get over half the hero shots completed.
After a lovely pub tea, a couple of pints of Guinness and a good nights sleep, it was time to go again on day two. As we’d pushed hard to get through as much as we could on day one, this did free some time up for the camera department to arrive early, before the rest of the crew, to capture some B-Roll of MyDentist’s brand new, swanky surgery. There’s nothing like getting a head start on the day!
The rest of day two went off without a hitch, with all hero shots being captured with time to spare! Ed Eaton, our sound recordist, had been busy locked away in his own private room, capturing voiceovers with MyDentist members of staff, whilst Jess had been working closely with Leanne, our hair and make up artist, on making sure talent were ready on time and there wasn’t any hanging about!
I say it all the time but it massively helps when you have a client who has a clear vision that is communicated effectively and is a pleasure to work with and it was great to be in the company of Alexandra J Broad & John Stennings once again.
At the end of this two dayer, I felt like I’d been living with the crew for months. They were quite full on days, with a lot of content to capture. But everyone was great and it was a real pleasure to spend my time with them.
I miss them…but not Jessica Baillie, I have to see her annoying face every day.
From the brand new, state of the art surgeries, great work environment to their customer care, we believe this video shows why people love being part of the team.
