In November, we had the incredible opportunity to work on a four-day shoot for the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) in Manchester. It was a whirlwind of iconic locations, backstage madness, and some seriously good food (more on that later). This wasn’t just a job — it was a chance to show off our home turf while being part of one of the biggest nights in music.
Our shoot began with PTC segments featuring Becca Dudley at some of Manchester’s most famous locations. As locals, we took immense pride in capturing the spirit of our city. From Old Trafford to the majestic Kimpton Clock Tower, the historic Shambles Square, and the legendary Salford Lads Club, we explored Manchester’s best-loved spots. It was a chance to show off the city that was hosting the EMAs for the first time, and we weren’t about to let it down. Plus, getting to film in such legendary locations was a real treat — though Old Trafford didn’t offer us a tryout, despite us showing some serious stamina lugging gear around.
The final three days were spent at the newly opened Co-op Live arena — Manchester’s newest crown jewel — where the real magic of the EMAs came alive. MTV handled all the production and scheduling (thankfully — imagine coordinating superstars!), which left us free to focus purely on the filming and visuals.
Backstage, we set up interviews for artists to step into — simple standing setups, clean and to the point. Besides interviewing artists such as the Mexican rock band The Warning, we watched artists rehearse their songs and massive crews assembling jaw-dropping stage setups. Let’s just say there’s nothing like witnessing global-scale production come together in real-time.
No project is without its challenges. Transporting gear between our base and the sets backstage at Co-op Live was a workout we weren’t quite prepared for (we’re considering adding “team gym sessions” to our weekly schedule). But once everything was set up, things ran smoothly, and we could focus on nailing the visuals.
Rita Ora’s dressing room interview on day three was another standout moment. Chatting with her in such an intimate setting felt special, and her warmth and humour made it even better.
The final day brought the excitement of the red carpet, where we interviewed a host of performers, including Tyla, Le Sserafim, Raye, and Busta Rhymes. It was electric. The glamour, the energy, and the sheer star power made the long days totally worth it.
We have to give a shoutout to the food at Co-op Live. It wasn’t just good — it was amazing. It kept us fueled and ready for the long days, and it might just be the best crew catering we’ve ever had.
Above all, though, this project made us incredibly proud to represent Manchester on such a global stage. Getting to show off the city we call home and contribute to such a prestigious event felt like a true privilege. This 4-day shoot wasn’t just a job; it was an experience. From capturing Manchester’s charm to standing backstage, surrounded by the energy of the EMAs, every moment reminded us why we love what we do. Sure, it was intense — the gear-lugging still haunts our dreams — but the thrill of being part of something so iconic made it all worthwhile. As we reflect on this project, we’re filled with gratitude for the opportunity to represent our city and bring the visuals of the MTV EMAs to life.
