Back in August 2024, the Coolbox team found themselves sunning themselves on the bank of the River Dee (well not quite, but we were close by), for another project with Creed Comms. We were tasked with producing a recruitment film for a Supply Chain Planner position at Iceland. The shop, not the country.
The concept of the video would feature a ‘day the life’ showcase of a Supply Planner. The Supply Planner in question was Iceland’s own Matthew Condren who had to do some walk and talks around Iceland’s HQ site, explaining what a Supply Planner’s role would be in each area and what impact they would have. I’ve got to say, when this concept was floated to the Coolbox team, we were quite cautious. It’s not often that someone who isn’t a trained presenter can pull off these walk and talks effectively, but Matthew absolutely nailed it!

These walks and talks would be interspersed with talking head soundbites from other members of staff at Iceland, and a small amount of B-Roll from around the Iceland HQ site.
When we arrived at Iceland HQ, we were shown to a meeting room in their main office and were asked, “will this room be OK to film in?”
It’s always a bit of a gamble when that question gets thrown at you, especially when you haven’t had the chance to do a proper site recce before production kicks off. The space we were given? Let’s just say it was a bit tight with some dated, massive, heavy furniture that couldn’t be moved! But, sometimes you just have to roll with the punches, right?

Luckily, the team at Iceland were incredibly accommodating, which made all the difference. Despite the limited space, we managed to make it work. When you’re on a shoot like this, you quickly realise how important it is to adapt to the environment you’re given. I can’t speak for the rest of the team, but this is something that I think Coolbox do really well.
For the setup, we opted for a simple, clean grey backdrop behind each subject. It kept things neutral and professional while still allowing the person in front of the camera to stand out. We also added a bit of warmer light to the subjects’ shoulders. This subtle touch helped soften the overall look, creating a more approachable, friendly vibe. After all, when you’re filming people for a brand, especially staff who are the face of the company, you want them to come across as both competent and warm.

In the end, despite the challenges of the tight space, the shoot went smoothly, and everyone looked fantastic on camera. It’s moments like these that remind you why flexibility and a creative approach to problem-solving are so essential in production.
What starts as a bit of a gamble can often turn into something unexpectedly great.
