What started as instructional, product-driven video content has evolved into deeply emotional, human-first storytelling. And that shift? It’s been a game-changer.
Here’s how it all unfolded.
A 15-Year Relationship, Reimagined
Coolbox has worked with Qufora Healthcare for over a decade, long before case studies and cinematic storytelling became the norm. Back in the early days, the content was straightforward: medical explainer videos that walked viewers through the functionality of products.
But over time, the work shifted. The team began focusing not just on what the product did, but who it helped and how it changed their lives.
The result? A series of powerful, emotionally driven case studies that show rather than tell.
Storytelling That Connects
Take our project featuring Jack and PJ. Both had suffered spinal cord injuries. The video explored how their friendship formed through shared recovery experiences and how Qufora’s products supported them through it. Whilst both lived in South Ireland, one lived in Cork, the other on a rural farm. The contrast in their environments and the strength of their bond grounded the video in something deeper than just product utility.
Then came Kim and Steve. The film opened with what seemed like Steve’s personal letter until a subtle reveal shows it was his wife Kim who wrote it. That clever narrative twist added emotional depth and showed the couple’s relationship and resilience, framed through the support they gave each other.
Finally, we created a video campaign in conjunction with Birmingham Children’s Hospital: a studio-based project featuring four families, all connected through the Children’s Hospital and their use of Qufora products. The children ranged from four to seventeen, each with different stories but all anchored by the same transformative experience.
What made it stand out? Parents who had never met connected through shared pain and triumph, and the kids shared their perspectives, too. In some cases, it was the first time they’d spoken so openly about their journey.
From Explainers to Empathy
This evolution from product-first to person-first storytelling wasn’t accidental; it was intentional.
As the team explained in the podcast, the shift to lifestyle and case study content allows for more than just conveying features. It creates connection. It shows outcomes. It’s felt, not just understood.
“There’s a wider reach when you make something emotional,”. “People may not connect with a list of facts, but they’ll always connect with a story.”
Why It Works
These kinds of videos go beyond typical brand messaging.
- Resonate emotionally, which makes them more memorable
- Widen the audience, by appealing to families, professionals, and communities alike
- Showcase real lives, making abstract benefits tangible
And crucially, they’re not hard sells. They’re human stories; stories that show what it feels like to regain hope, connection, and dignity.
Takeaway for Brands
So, what’s the one technique the Coolbox team swears by?
Storytelling through lived experience.
It’s simple, but powerful: Instead of centring the product, centre the person. Let the audience feel the outcome, not just hear about it. That emotional anchor is what sets great brand videos apart.
If your brand video content is feeling flat or overly functional, it might be time to shift the spotlight from “what it is” to “what it means.”
